Shrimp Fly for Carp- Fly Tying Tutorial
Have you ever considered tying shrimp flies for carp? Carp are opportunistic feeders who sometimes find themselves in brackish water. While there they enjoy slurping up some shrimp and other tasty morsels. This carp shrimp was definitely something they wanted to eat and they would cover some serious ground just to grab it. This fly will also work for cutthroat and anything else that swims in or near salty water.

Just came across your channel/video. Heading to kenai river in 3 days and will give this fly a try. Thanks for the video.
That's awesome! Thank you for watching and have fun on your trip!
Mr Pete.... the speed machine.
Haha! You know it!
In the 80's we called this type of tie a "fly rod lure".
Love it. Thanks for watching!
Simple. fishy, love it. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
Awesome, Wonderful.....who wouldnt stay with your videos to the end. Pete, fantastic job. I can't believe that Josh would ever steel your flies 😮.
You're a legend, Ken! It's OK if he takes a few... then I don't feel as bad when I grab some of his haha!! Thanks for your support!
Awesome guys, congrats. Spawn products are the bomb, your customer service is the ultimate and overall selection, fishing info, and shopping experience is second to none. Here’s to another 7 years.
Thank you! Here's to another 7!!
Congrats!!
Thank you!!
great service every time we travel through the area and stop in
Thanks, Drew!
You guys are killing it! Been following the progress for last 5-6 years and you guys turned into my favorite shop a long time ago! Keep up the good work, love the tying videos also ! 🎉 🎣🇺🇸
That's awesome! Thank you for your support!
Very nice looking shop, I’ll make a trip to see you guys one day. Love from woodland
Thank you! Really appreciate it!
Ive only been tying for about 6 or 7 months, but lately ive been getting as much fulling mill stuff as I can and ive liked all of it. Granted its just been marabou and dubbing, but theyre my favorite for both. When steelhead are running i will use spinning, centerpin and the fly, so im tying a ton of jigs and flies both and its brought me so much joy. Unfortunately i blew all of my 20s and first couple years into my 30s with addiction problems, and having started going back to school this past year im fairly broke and cant get as many materials as id like (but still probably spend too much tbh), so videos like this are helpful in that they help me decide which materials are priority. Cool pattern
Glad you're on the right path!! Fly tying and fishing in general are definitely an amazing source of enjoyment and can absolutely provide some calm and quiet for the mind. Thanks for watching and keep tying!
If you were to put a materials list in the description, I would be ok with it
The material list will always be posted on the full length video. Any short you see will always have a full version if you simply search by name or title!
I love the instructional videos....the music is torture, like the worst of being on hold.......
We all had to start somewhere. You are definitely watching an old video. Any of the current vids are music free. Thanks for watching!
Heard of b run steelhead. What makes a coho B run?
spawnflyfish.com/blogs/spawn-blog/what-is-a-b-run-coho-salmon Great question, Bruce! This is a link to one of our blogs that will provide the answers! Thanks for watching!
SAIL!
sorry to ask such a nob question. How do you tie that style leader on? just put a just tie an overhand knot with a big bite? thank you get video
@@pacificpride1 um I usually just use a clinch knot it will usually do the job for anything you need you can do a lefty no slip loop knot too!
Thanks for another great looking pattern Pete !
Thank you! Appreciate you taking the time to watch!
@@SpawnFlyFish 🎣
Does the extra resin make it more water proof? Resistant to being waterlogged?
There is only head cement on the thread wraps. No resin!
❤
Thank you!
Very nice.
Thank you!
Great tie, Pete. Tied some just the way you directed and then did a couple substituting India Brahma hen for the CDL. Came out looking pretty buggy also.
Thank you! That sounds like a deadly combo! I'm a fan of anything that ends up looking buggy haha!
They can be such lazy eaters it’s funny
They can be goofy eaters for sure haha. But they pull like a freight train! Love fighting these fish!
Snickle Fritz.......Great job Pete
Thanks, Ken! Snicklefritz for the win!
Great video and audio Pete! Are you measuring your CDC and CDL before tying it?
Thanks, Mike! I do measure the CDL, but the CDC I prefer the messy mix of whatever is on the feather... for the most part haha! Thanks for watching!
do you guys have these for sale??
Unfortunately we do not, but we sell all the materials to make it come to life!
I fish a variation of this fly called "the ticket" in the streams and rivers in colorado and it is probably my #1 go to dropper because it always gets me a fish.
That's awesome! Definitely been a lot of fish that have fallen victim to this fly haha! Cheers!
Good stuff! Love the new look in the shop!
Thanks, Dan! It's definitely coming together!
Congratulations!!
Thank you!
Hi...I'm curious how well these materials hold up to fishing; or, more precisely, to catching fish. Those materials are so delicate--how well do they hold up?
The way they hold up depends on the way they're applied and also the target species. The toothier the fish the shorter the fly duration. When you're fishing for a bunch of salmon there is a good chance the hook will bend out before the fly gets too tattered to fish. Hope that helps!
Hi Pete. I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my best friend to cancer last year and it still hurts. It's such a beautiful color! Hang in there Pete.
Really appreciate that. Sorry for you loss.
Nice update especially with the Grundens gear. Congrats on your special day Josh!!
Thank you so much!
Your updates are getting better guys. Congrats on your wedding Josh.
Thank, Ken! Really appreciate that!
what an awesome pattern
Thank you! The fish agree!
Ukuran tubuh semakin besar semakin kesulitan mendapatkan makanan 😢
Awesome vid🙌🙌What are you using to video?
Thank you! For this trip it was a DSLR- the Nikon Z6 II. Amazing little workhorse!
Gidday Pete, fantastic job, great explanations of techniques. Thanks.
Thank you, Ken!
Nice looking tie Pete! Definitely have to try them. Always enjoy you and Josh’s videos !
Thank you! Really appreciate it!
as always, a great tie. thanks
Thanks, Ron!
Nice easy tie. Could double as a hopper too. Thanks.
Thanks, Mike! Would definitely work as a hopper!
Last year i bought a new spey setup....everything, rod, reel, line....i had a free hour to get it in the water and hooked into a chum....youve never known the fear of having around $150 of 12 minute old line down stream, 90ft into the backing on a pissed off chum who is still runnning..
That's epic! Have to put the breaks to them right away haha!
Great pattern is it ok to have that hook is so far forward on the vice ?
It could have been a little further back, but once the camera starts it's sometimes easier to just roll.
So many cool fish! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
Must have missed this one, great job.
Greatly appreciated, Ken! You rock!
Beautiful looking fish, amazing spot, sounded like you were struggling getting up that little hill Josh 😊
Thanks, Ken! Haven't done anything with real elevation in years haha!
Great vid - love these types of adventures. Good stuff!
Thanks, Dan! Such a rewarding trip!
Awesome content. Love those big red cutties. A very special trip.
Thank you! These fish were amazing!
Great stuff guys, great new products.
Thanks, Ken! We appreciate your support!
What kind of line are you using. Floating, full intermediate or some sort of integrated sink tip.
Floating lines for the majority of the time. We do carry a rod with either a sink tip attached or an intermediate line for those deeper pools and runs!
@@SpawnFlyFish awesome. Great video. Can’t wait to try my luck this season. It’s almost time.
Whats the fly you're using called
It's called the Rocktober Caddis... we have a tying tutorial under that name!
I like wearing polorized glasses in the airport. It’s like rappers wearing sunglasses inside the club
Love it haha! Keep doing you!
Will there be a follow up video from your alpine trip?
